In your own words, Why should nobody no matter how just the motives behind the actions be held above the law?
I am doing a legal debate on thursday that environmental activists who break the law should be punished according to law. Why in your own words should no1 be held above the law, what consciences can come from this?
The word LAW means something EVERYONE SHOULD ADHERE TO – NO exceptions! A law is passed – supposedly, for the safety and security for all! And THAT includes the Lawmakers themselves, but when these lawmakers exempt themselves from the consequences of BREAKING that law, or changing it to suit their personal agenda, then, you have a dictatorship! One standard for the ruling class, and another for the masses.
But you are talking about environmental activists!! These are people who see beyond what is happening now, and the damage that will be caused long term, far into the future. These guys can talk their heads off until the cows come home about the destruction of our planet, but nobody REALLY listens or cares about the future!! All the masses think about now, is HOW to survive day to day because of the economic crunch this country is in at this very moment! Nobody is worrying about all the trees that are being cut down, the polluted air we breathe, the oceans that are being poisoned – so, the only alternative to wake people up and pay attention, is to BREAK the LAW in such a manner, it will hit the Headlines for the whole world to see! I don’t think they should be punished for their actions, most of them are good people trying to save the Planet for our children and children’s children, not the mention the OTHER species who share this earth with us!!! THOSE are generally considered nuisances, and in our way to build MORE houses and factories to ADD more poison into the air!! Why do WE consider Human beings are the only ones who have the right to inherit the earth?
